Job Description
Provide direction to instrument processing personnel to ensure quality and efficiency of processing operations. Complete all related documentation and perform all instrument technician activities where needed. Provide coaching and encouragement to all team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be a team player as measured by his/her peers.
- Attend daily shift huddles and operations meetings.
- Encourage and motivate staff while performing duties.
- Ensure all document compliance.
- Communicate effectively with peers and leadership. Make recommendations for possible quality and/or operational improvement.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Instrumentations group and functions.
- Ensure all instrument processing activities are performed according to ANSI/AAMI Standards and published SPSA Work Instructions (WI’s) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s.)
- Ensure that all instruments are properly accounted for upon arrival to SPSA and when dispatched back to the customer.
- Ensure that all parts are included for instruments designed to be disassembled.
- Check equipment for instrument parts.
- Assess and track proper use of chemicals used in reprocessing activities.
- Ensure the efficient use of consumables to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Monitor employee schedules developed by management to ensure proper staffing per shift and workload.
- Effectively interface with operations personnel, distribution, and other departments as appropriate.
- Inspect assembled tray/item for completeness, accuracy, and integrity prior to packaging for the sterilization phase of processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for leading the instrument team through all areas of the instrument department including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and dispatch.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 2 plus years instrument processing experience required. Must have working knowledge of surgical instruments and processing procedures. Previous team lead or supervisory experience preferred. Previous Hospital, Surgery Center or Clinic Sterile Processing experience preferred.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or GED required. Instrument Technician Certification and supervisory experience preferred. Certification in sterile processing (CRCST) required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Quality and detail oriented.
- Willing and capable of working with others.
- Have good manual dexterity.
- Familiar with personal computer/data processing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a fast-paced indoor production area with little exposure to dust and high temperatures; moderate exposure to excessive noise; climate-controlled environment; and controlled access. Frequent exposure to bio-hazardous materials and strong odorous chemicals or elements.
